Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information.

Last updated: Oct. 5, 2026

A Count You Can Trust ("we," "us" or "our"), an initiative of the California Community Foundation, operates this website to explain how Los Angeles County runs and counts its elections. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you visit our website or send us a message or sign up for updates through it, consistent with California law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following personal information only when you choose to provide it:

  • Identifiers: your name and email address.
  • Your ZIP code, if you choose to give it when you sign up for updates.
  • Your message: what you write to us, and anything you include in it.
  • Technical details: the date and time you sent the message or signed up and your browser type.

We do not collect sensitive personal information, financial information, Social Security numbers, government-issued IDs, biometric data or precise geolocation data.

2. How We Collect Information

We collect personal information only when you voluntarily submit it through:

  • The "Send us a message" form on our Get in Touch page
  • The "Stay connected" sign-up on our Get Involved page
  • Emails you send to us directly

We do not use cookies, tracking pixels or advertising tools. If we measure visits to this site, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and does not track you across other websites. To prevent spam, our server holds your IP address in memory for up to 10 minutes when you send a message or sign up; it is not stored. We do not purchase personal information from third parties.

Joining the coalition happens on a separate sign-up form, which explains what it collects and how it is used.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your personal information will only be used for purposes directly related to this public education campaign. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Read and reply to your message
  • Follow up on what you asked about, such as joining the coalition or requesting materials
  • Send you the updates and event notices you signed up for, and tell you about events in your area if you gave us your ZIP code. You can ask us to stop at any time by replying to one of our emails or writing to the address below.
  • Keep a record of messages and sign-ups we receive

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We will never sell, rent or share your personal information for marketing or advertising. This is a core commitment of our campaign.

We use a small number of service providers to run this website and receive messages: Railway hosts the website, and Google stores messages and sign-ups in Google Sheets and Gmail. They handle your information only on our behalf.

We may otherwise disclose your information only in these limited circumstances:

  • With your consent: for example, if you ask us to connect you with a coalition partner.
  • Legal requirements: if required by law, regulation, legal process or an enforceable governmental request.

5. Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)

As a California resident, you have the following rights:

  • Right to Know: You can ask us to disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to Delete: You can ask us to delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You can ask us to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so no opt-out is needed.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect sensitive personal information.

6. How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise any of your privacy rights, contact us at the email address below. We will respond within 45 days, as required by California law. We may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling your request to protect your information.

7. Data Retention

We keep your personal information only as long as needed for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. You may ask us to delete your information at any time.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. This website is served only over encrypted connections. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

9. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will promptly delete it.

10. Do Not Track Signals

Our website does not track users across third-party websites and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. We do not use tracking technologies that would require a DNT response.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any material changes on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the website after such changes means you accept the revised policy.
