Message to Eligible Voters: Don't Let Intimidation Keep You From Voting

Amid Justice Department action, coalition reminds Angelenos of their voting rights and urges them to report harassment

LOS ANGELES - A Count You Can Trust, an independent, nonpartisan coalition working to strengthen confidence in Los Angeles County elections, is reminding Angelenos that the law protects their right to vote safely and without fear. Threatening, harassing or intimidating voters is prohibited. Anyone who experiences or witnesses voter intimidation should report it at report.lavote.net.

The reminder comes as the Justice Department seeks an emergency U.S. Supreme Court order requiring California to set aside approximately 20,000 vote-by-mail ballots. That legal action does not change the central message to eligible voters: exercise your right to vote, and do not let fear or confusion keep you from participating.

“Election Day is tomorrow. Our elections are secure, and every eligible voter has the right to vote free from threats or intimidation,” said former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Co-Chair of A Count You Can Trust. “State and federal laws protect that right. If you experience or witness voter harassment, report it. Don’t let the noise in Washington—or anyone trying to intimidate you—keep you from making your voice heard. Stay the course. Vote.”

Los Angeles County’s election safeguards remain in place. The coalition urges voters to rely on official election information and report harassment rather than allow intimidation to silence their voices.
